Water Meter Readings

The following dates are when water meters are read (approximately):

  • 1st Week of May
  • 1st Week of August
  • 1st Week of November
  • 1st Week of February

Please Note: All Public Works employees will have ID badges. Do not let anyone in your home without proper identification.


Current Water Rates

The quarterly charges for all water passing through all meters shall be as follows:

Please Note: Residences or businesses that are not occupied will continue to receive a minimum bill unless all of the fixtures (sinks, toilets, and/or bathtubs) are removed.

  1. Senior citizens, as defined by the rules and regulations of the New Jersey statutes setting forth senior citizen exemptions, shall pay $20.00 per quarter on a three-fourths-inch meter for up to 7,000 gallons of water. Such senior citizens shall receive such rate upon their notifying the Borough of Clayton of their status as qualifying senior citizen. This rate shall apply to dwellings only, and each senior citizen, including spouse regardless of spouse’s age, shall be entitled to this rate for one dwelling only.
  2. Each meter is installed with a fixed minimum quarterly charge. Such minimum charge shall be nonabateable for nonusers of water and noncumulative against subsequent consumption. In the case of fractional period bills, covering less than a quarter, minimum charges and allowance shall be prorated.
